Adoption at Nickel City Cats

We know that adopting a pet can sometimes feel as intimidating as it is exciting. At Nickel City Cats, we believe the process should be welcoming, accessible, and judgment-free. Our adoption questionnaire asks a lot of questions, but the information we collect helps us determine how accessible, affordable rescue can work to reduce the number of cats/kittens needing rescue in the future.

What matters most to us is simple:

  • You’ll provide a safe, loving home.
  • You’ll treat your cat as a member of your family.
  • You’ll commit to caring for them throughout their life.

Some cats may have specialized medical needs or particular adoption requirements. For these Special Adoptions, we may ask additional questions and take longer to select an applicant in order to find an ideal adopter who has the highest chance of being a successful match for our special feline.

However, we understand that not every match works out, even when everyone has the best intentions. That’s why we offer a 3-month return-for-refund policy. If things aren’t working out, please contact us. We’d much rather help bring a cat safely back into our care than have someone feel ashamed or afraid to ask for help. Returning a cat does not automatically prevent you from adopting from us again in the future. However, NCC reserves the right to refuse a transfer adoption fees to another cat as outlined in the Adoption Agreement for any reason and instead choose to issue a refund upon return of the cat. Reasons for refusal would include concerns regarding the treatment, or lackthereof, of the animals, volunteers, or others associated with NCC, both online and offline.

At Nickel City Cats, our team and volunteers come from all walks of life. We don’t expect perfection from ourselves, and we certainly don’t expect it from our adopters.

You don’t have to be perfect to adopt a cat. You just have to be ready to love one. ❤️

Adoption Process

Step 1: Read our “Adoption Agreement “ which includes information about our Adoption Standards, Medical Disclosure, and Adoption Fees.
If you agree to the terms of the agreement, check our Facebook Page to see what cats and kittens are currently available for adoption!

Step 2: When you find the cat(s) you want to adopt, fill out our Adoption Questionnaire.
Please note:
~ Some cats (especially young cats and kittens) get adopted very quickly, so it is important to submit an application as soon as possible for your best chance at being selected. Since our adoption form is thorough, it is recommended to have your answers prepared ahead of time, so you can apply quickly when a cat becomes available that you want.
~ Some cats might require a Special Adoption Questionnaire instead if they have additional adoption requirements, medical or otherwise.

Step 3: If you are the chosen applicant, you will be contacted by phone by an Executive. Once your application information is confirmed, you will be provided our volunteer foster’s contact information so you can arrange a time to meet and/or pick-up your newest feline friend.

Step 4: Meet your cat and take them home!
~ If you are in/near Sudbury, it’s your choice – you can choose to meet the cat/kitten first before making a decision (*geographically permitting).
~ Alternatively – if you are already certain you want to adopt the cat, want to decide when you meet them in person, or are travelling a distance to pick-up the cat and don’t have a meet-and-greet first – you MUST bring a cat carrier with you for the adoption. *If you do not have a carrier with you, you will not be allowed to take the cat home with you.*
~ You will also be required to sign an adoption agreement and provide payment (cash or proof of e-transfer) at the time of adoption.
